Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria will lead a high-level delegation in the US to strengthen trade and increase investments.

The delegation comprising officials from both government and the private sector will take part in a bilateral strategic dialogue in Washington D.C.

They will also hold a trade and investment roadshow in New York City to pitch investment opportunities to American investors.

Kuria said the trade and investment roadshow will involve presentations by US government officials, Kenyan government officials and various sector players and investors as well as networking events and other organized meetings.

Through the investment roadshow themed ‘Why Kenya, why Africa’, the delegation seeks to highlight the potential of investment opportunities in Kenya and Africa and the conducive business environment tailored for investors.

The roadshow according to the ministry is in response to the formidable case presented by US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman during the AmCham business summit held in Nairobi from 29 to 30 March.

The ministry in a statement on Saturday said the Kenyan delegation will engage their American counterparts on five key areas of economic prosperity, health, democracy and governance, defence cooperation, regional and multilateral issues and long-term trade relations.

“Kenya will use the forum to strengthen bilateral ties with the US by exploring new areas of cooperation in investment, trade, security and other areas of mutual interest,” the statement reads.

According to the ministry, the discussion on economic propensity will be led by the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Kenya Foreign Affairs CS Alref Mutua.

The forum will seek to reaffirm the US-Kenya commitment to increase two-way trade and investment, overcome policy obstacles to economic growth and build a long-term trade relationship.

Deputy assistant secretary for the Middle East and Africa global markets Camille Richardson will lead a session that seeks to review the impact of the investment climate change and ICT policy commitments made by President William Ruto during the AmCham summit.

“Among the key issues to be discussed will include partnership in the commercialization of biotech seeds and crops following Kenya’s decision to lift the ban on cultivation and importation of genetically modified crops,” the ministry said.

Kuria said Kenya will leverage the trade and investment roadshow in New York and bilateral strategic dialogue in Washington DC to pitch and invite American investors to the three-day international investment conference to be held in Kenya from May 29 to 31 this year.

He will then be expected to join global leaders at the 26th annual Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles where he will participate as a speaker in the conference bringing together more than 4,000 participants globally.
