A section of leaders led by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu visited one of the families that lost their daughter in the Mukumu Girls tragedy on Saturday.

Machogu condoled with the family of David Webbo who lost their daughter Miriam last week.

"The ministry is committed to ensuring justice is found for our slain daughters even as we continue probing the incident," Machogu said.

Before visiting the family, the CS toured the school where he made managerial changes.

He disbanded the school board of management and even appointed a new principal.

"Mukumu Girl's former Principal Frida Ndolo has been transferred, she will be replaced by Jane Mmbone as the school head," he said.

Machogu was accompanied by Higher Education PS Beatrice Inyangala, Kakamega Chief Officer in Education Leah Khasandi, and Public Health Chief Officer George Omukodo.

A section of local leaders in the county including MCAs, and MPs also joined the team.

The Ministry of Health said the food Mukumu girls high school students consumed was contaminated with fresh faeces.

Director General for Health Patrick Amoth made the revelation in In a statement on Friday.

"The Ministry wishes to inform the general public that this disease is likely to be a mixture of E. coli and Salmonella typhi which usually occurs if water sources are contaminated with these micro-organisms," he said.

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a bacteria commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms that can cause food poisoning.

Salmonella enterica typhi is a gram-negative bacterium that is responsible for typhoid fever.

Amoth added that further laboratory investigations carried out on the grains and pulses for aflatoxin turned negative for aflatoxicosis
