Embu stadium will be ready for Madaraka Day - Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is optimistic the ongoing works at the Moi stadium in Embu will be complete by June 1.

This year’s 60th Madaraka Day celebration will be staged in Embu.

Speaking after an inspection tour at the stadium, Gachagua said he was pleased with the construction currently at 65 per cent.

"I am happy with the construction progress of this stadium. I am certain that in six weeks' time, the stadium should be ready for handover," he noted.

He added, "I will come back for the final inspection and I expect the contractor to hand over the stadium".

It is set to host about 20, 000 people.

President William Ruto announced the venue during the 2022 Jamhuri Day celebration.

It will be themed 'Universal healthcare', Ruto said.

The DP also visited the proposed Embu Njugiri International Sports Centre, a facility that features various amenities that will constitute a world-class stadium.

During the tour of the region, the Deputy President also interacted with traders at the Embu town market.

The government plans to build a new four-storey market in the town.

"We will start the construction of the storey market soon," affirmed Gachagua.

The DP also pleaded with the traders to pave the way for the construction of the market saying they will be prioritized in the distribution of new stalls.

The Deputy President also instructed the contractors to employ local youth as well as acquiring construction materials locally.
