Security was Friday morning heightened at the presidential function in Gesusu, Masaba South in Kisii after a lone heckler attempted to cause chaos at the function.

The goon is said to have been in the company of other unknown numbers of thugs.

Others scattered in various directions when police arrived.

Several other youths were injured during a clash with police inside a nearby sugarcane farm.

The farm is meters away from the main tent where the function is taking place. 

Also injured was a woman who was trampled upon as the security chased the youth.

Some dozens of would-be goons were later isolated and ejected as the function got underway.

President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua are in the region to grace the homecoming ceremony of Education CS Ezekiel Machogu.

Also in attendance are several Cabinet Secretaries.

The function is going on at Getacho Primary in Gesusu township.

More security personnel, in riot gear, were called in to beef up security.
