Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek has warned President William Ruto against succumbing to pressure to have a dialogue with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Kiborek told Ruto to maintain his hard stance arguing the planned mass action by the opposition leaders is intentionally aimed to create fear.

“William Ruto should not subdue to pressure... If he subdues to pressure and agrees to a handshake today, 2032 Gachagua will be forced to subdue pressure and listen to his grievances."

Kiborek said Raila is a predictable politician who has an anarchy way of approaching government.

"During late president Mwai Kibaki’s time he said 42 against one and was given ‘nusu mkate’...during retired president Uhuru Kenyatta's time, he said he belonged to ICC but after ‘handshake’, he claimed Uhuru is an angel," said the legislator.

According to the legislator, the opposition wants to punish Mt Kenya for not voting for him in the 2022 general election.

Raila has however denied the claims and said he will protect the Mt Kenya business community and added that the protests will be peaceful.

Arguing that Monday's planned demonstration in the Capital would not be peaceful, Kiborek cited the “rehearsal" in Kisumu recently.

There have been calls by religious leaders for Ruto to reach out to Raila to avert political tensions in the country.

“As a symbol of national unity, we ask you to focus on oneness. It is of essence that you reach out to the opposition to promote dialogue for the betterment of our nation,” SUPKEM secretary general Hassan Ole Nado said.

Raila has issued what he terms as bare minimums to Ruto for him to suspend the anti-Ruto rallies which have been held in various parts of the country.

But, Ruto has stuck to his guns saying:

“These people want nothing but a Handshake. I want to tell them early enough: forget the handshake…and don’t tell us you don’t want it. We can see you from far.”
