Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has vowed to work with the government to develop the county.

Speaking on Tuesday, the governor said Western leaders are tired of being in the opposition.

"As Trans Nzoia, we want to reclaim our position by working with the national government," he said.

"Raila is the one who taught us how to cooperate with the national government, he knows that county finances are not enough."

The governor said that Western Kenya has been continuously labeled as 'opposition' zone and therefore lacks state support.

He said that Kisumu, unlike other counties is developed with major highways and a modern market.

"When you visit Kisumu, it is a city, they have a highway, a port and a modern market, is that the work of governor Anyang Nyong’o?" he said.

Natembeya has on several occasions committed to working with President William Ruto for development.

The governor has been missing in action during recent Azimio rallies.

Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya lifted the lid on the simmering unease with county chiefs who are a no-show in the opposition rallies, calling on voters to deal with them.

The ODM deputy party leader said it is the height of insubordination for governors elected under the opposition coalition to give the rallies a wide berth, even when they are the hosts.

Out of the eight Azimio-controlled counties that have hosted anti-government rallies since January, at least five host governors have skipped the barazas.

Among them are Natembeya, Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), Paul Otuoma (Busia), Amos Nyaribo (Nyamira) and Wilber Otichilo(Vihiga).
