Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani should come out and explain to the nation where he took the Sh15billion, former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has said.

Kabando said Yatani should also name his accomplices, urging Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang'o to resign forthwith so that she can be a state witness in the matter.

According to Kabando, Nyakang'o violated the Constitution and "indignified" the office.

"She should resign immediately and wisely opt to become a state witness. Let's have no mercy on looters," the Jubilee politician said.

He said it was unfortunate that Nyakang'o failed to resist illegal demands, yet she is constitutionally protected.

Calling on Azimio leader Raila Odinga to keep off the matter, Kabando wondered if the former CS was ready to protect retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"If he is arrested over corruption, will his ethnic community and Azimio seniors claim vindictiveness and vengeance?" he questioned.

While appearing before the National Assembly Public Petitions Committee, the controller of budget claimed she approved the withdrawal of the amount under duress.

She alleged that she noticed various irregularities but had to approve because of the pressure.

The withdrawals were made under the roads annuity programme amounting to about Sh9 billion and Sh6 billion for payment for telecom.

In a document she tabled before the panel, Nyakango printed the conversations with the senior Treasury official.

"Please help us expedite this. His Excellency might even call you if we don't deal with this by 4 pm," the text messages she alleges were from the official read in part.

"He just called and I assured him that I have spoken to you and you promised before the end of the day," the official added.

The conversation allegedly took place on August 4, 2022.

The pressure continued to mount on the CoB to resign following the revelations coming hot on the heels of a statement by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that he will soon name those who looted the taxpayer's money in the last regime.

Lawyer Ahmednasir has termed the admission amounts to a travesty of the law and Nyakang'o should as such step down from office.

"In my humble opinion, the Controller of Budget must resign today or Parliament should start the process of removing her tomorrow. She can't authorise the stealing of Sh15 billion two days to elections allegedly because she was coerced," the lawyer said.
