The Ministry of Interior has today submitted its recommendations to the taskforce formed to assess the terms and conditions of service for police and prison service officers.

The 20-member committee is chaired by former Chief Justice David Maraga.

Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo who presented the views expressed his commitment towards having a professional and responsible police service.

"The government is committed to create a modern, professional and accountable police unit," he said.

The police reforms agenda, he noted, is a framework based on the administrative, institutional, policy and legislative approach.

The taskforce is tasked with identifying the constraints on effective service delivery by the NPS and KPS.

It will also review and recommend improvement of matters relating to the welfare of the officers.

“I am committed at a personal level and the Kenya Government at the corporate level, to make sure that we have a professional service. I have given my assurance to the Commanders across the country that they have my support and that of the Government of Kenya to make sure they deliver on their mandate,” President William Ruto said during a past meeting.

The taskforce has already traversed all the counties collecting views from the relevant stakeholders.

After concluding the process, it will compile a report before presenting it to the President.

The creation of the taskforce is a result of promises made to Kenyans by President William Ruto.
