Rescue mission continues for four trapped in Kakamega goldmine

Four people are still trapped after a goldmine collapsed on 12 gold prospectors at Khayaga village in Ikolomani subcounty, Kakamega.

Eight people were rescued from the mine while four others remained covered by this morning.

The pit is said to have collapsed at 1 am as the miners went about their business.

The rescued were admitted to the Mukumu Mission Hospital with injuries but in stable condition.

Kakamega county commissioner John Ondego said the rescue operations were ongoing to find the reminding miners.

He said there was hope that the four were still alive.
