Primary schools are yet to receive Sh9.6 billion capitation for more than 1.26 million Grade 7 learners.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu said primary schools are still computing data on enrolled students.

Machogu was speaking on Monday when he officiated Form 1 admission at St Georges Girls, Nairobi.

"Once we get the necessary information of those able to register in junior secondary we will send the money," Machogu said.

Primary schools are set to receive Sh15,042 as capitation for every Grade 7 learner.

"Any time from now when we get the information we require we will send the money to all Junior Secondary Schools," he said.

He reiterated that more than 30,000 teachers will report to different schools this week.

The commission said 9,000 of the slots are for permanent secondary school teachers and 1,000 for primary school teachers, while 21,550 slots are for intern teachers for junior secondary schools.

Learners joining JSS will study 14 subjects with 12 being compulsory.

English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Health Education, Pre-Technical and Pre-Career, Social Studies, Religious Education, Business Studies, Agriculture, Life Skills Education, Physical Education/Sports.

Foreign languages (German, French, and Mandarin), will be introduced alongside indigenous languages as optional subjects. 

Other optional subjects will include Performing/Visual Arts and Computer Science.

English, Mathematics and Social Studies have been allocated the highest number of hours with each having five lessons each week.
