Cancel Jacaranda rally for Mashemeji Derby, Gor Mahia urges Raila

Gor Mahia football club has urged opposition leader Raila Odinga to cancel his planned Jacaranda rally in favour of the Mashemeji Derby.

Instead, they want Raila to grace the football match.

"We the Kogalo fraternity are aware that you have planned a consultative meeting with wananchi cum demo on January 29, 2023," reads a letter addressed to Raila dated January 26, 2023.

The football club through the club's secretary general Samul Ochola said that the planned rally was coinciding with their match against AFC Leopards.

"As our dear patron, we wish to remind you of our Mashemeji Derby clash with Afc Leopards at 3 pm at Nyayo Stadium. The same day that you will be holding consultative meeting," he said.

As a result, Gor Mahia FC  has appealed to the opposition leader to consider either rescheduling the event or having it and in good time to enable the supporters of both clubs to make their way to the stadium in time for the derby.

Raila on Monday announced that the Azimio la Umoja coalition will hold a rally at Jacaranda grounds on January 29, 2023.

"Tutakua na mkutano nyingine jumapili ijayo, tarehe ishirini na tisa kule Jacaranda," he said

(We will have another meeting like this next Sunday, January 29, at the Jacaranda grounds.) 

Speaking while addressing his supporters at the Kamukunji grounds, Raila said he wanted Kenyans to stand firm as his team works on elections reforms.
