Bungoma records highest cases of physical abuse on women- survey

It's followed by Murang'a and Homa Bay at 54 per cent.

Bungoma, Murang'a and Homa Bay are among the counties with the highest number of women who have experienced of physical violence.

This is according to the Kenya Demographic Health Survey of 2022.

The survey looked into the number of women between the ages of 15 to 49 who had experienced physical violence since age 15.

Bungoma had the highest number of women at 62 per cent, followed by Murang'a and Homa Bay at 54 per cent.

"Migori had 51 per cent, Samburu 49 per cent, Isiolo 46 per cent, Turkana 42 per cent and Kiambu 42 per cent as well," the survey found.

The county with the lowest number of women aged 15 to 49 who had experienced physical violence since age 15 was Mandera at nine per cent.

"It was followed by Kitui with 12 per cent, Wajir 13 percent, Kwale 13 per cent as well and Marsabit and Kericho at 16 per cent," it reads.

Other notable counties include Nairobi at 30 per cent, Kakamega(40), Kisii and Kisumu both at 36 per cent, Mombasa(25) and Nakuru (24).
