Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has reinstated the Kazi Mtaani initiative in a bid to create employment for the youth.
Speaking in Western on Tuesday, the Governor said the initiative will begin in March.
"My administration will reintroduce the "Kazi Mashinani" programme which will target 3,000 youths from across the sixty wards of Kakamega county," Barasa said.
He said he has held talks with his MCAs as they work together to bring back the initiative.
"We must bring back the Kazi mashinani initiative. From the beginning of March," Barasa said.
The governor said the move will help those without employment to get a reliable income.
Additionally, the initiative, the Governor said, will allow for employees to work on a one-year contract.
This is a step away from the three months period that employees under the initiative used to work before.
"MCAs will have the opportunity to hire 50 people to do the work. They will be given a one-year contract and not three months "Barasa said.
He said new employees will be taken in every year to give more people the opportunity to work and earn an income.
