President William Ruto should ensure religion brings national unity, national coordinator at the National Civil Society Congress Churchill Suba has said.

Speaking at an interview with KTN on Friday, Suba said the President is a symbol of national unity.

He said as the President welcomes church members to national functions, he should ensure other religions do not feel excluded.

"Article 131 of the Constitution says the President is a symbol of National unity. So, how do you balance your practice and belief in Christianity without being perceived as biased by the Muslim, Hindu and nonbelievers?" Suba said.

"You are the President of all of them, so how do you ensure there is national unity?"

He added that it is a good thing that the President is prayerful, but he ought to remember that remember Article eight of the Constitution says that there shall be no state religion.

Suba said Ruto and the First Lady Rachel Ruto ought to be careful not to turn State House into a cathedral.

"There are occasions where I have felt that the President and the first lady are taking it a bit too far and almost turning State House into a cathedral, that ought not to be the case," he said.

Suba warned that it is not good to make other religions feel excluded.

"And even within that Christian community he is not just working with all of them. How would the Catholics feel if every day you are inviting the evangelicals? " he said.

The official said the President seems to be embraced more by the evangelicals.
