32 cases of enforced disappearance reported in 2022

There were over 187 cases of police killings and disappearances recorded in 2022.

This is according to Human Rights Watch in Kenya.

Human Rights Watch East Africa director Otsieno Namwaya said that is the approximate number they got from a consortium of rights bodies in the country.

"Out of the 187, 32 were forced disappearances while the rest were killings," he said.

Namwaya spoke during the launch of the Human Rights Watch report on Human Rights trends in Africa at the Savora Stanley Nairobi on Thursday.

Namwaya said that in 2021, there were roughly 153 killings and disappearances recorded.

"Of those, 15 were disappearances and 128 were killings," he said.
