[PHOTOS] Wetang'ula attends commonwealth speakers conference in Australia

The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetang’ula, among Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth Parliaments, attended this year’s Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) currently underway at the Parliament of Australia.

Wetang'ula said he attended the conference "in the spirit of maintaining, fostering, and encouraging impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments."

He added that the meeting would also promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms and develop parliamentary institutions.

The forum, usually conducted on a biennial basis, brings together the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the national parliaments of the independent sovereign states of the Commonwealth.

This year’s convention is expected to look into various aspects of developing Parliamentary Institutions; promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms and deliberate on ways in which to maintain, foster, and encourage impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments.
