Hustler fund update: Kenyans have saved Sh466 million

Kenyans who have taken up the Hustler Fund have accumulatively saved Sh466 million since it was launched about three weeks ago.

According to Cooperatives and MSME Development Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui, the Hustler Fund is designed—in part—to cultivate and promote the culture of saving in the country.

CS Chelugui describes the uptake of the Hustler Fund as impressive, noting that Sh9.3 billion had been disbursed by 7 am, on Sunday, from some 16 million transactions.

He said that borrowers have so far repaid some Sh2.4 billion translating to 23 per cent.

Meanwhile, 16 million Kenyans have so far been registered with the Hustler Fund while the number of Kenyans who have borrowed more than once has now crossed the 2.4 million mark.

The Hustler Fund is President William Ruto's biggest campaign promise.

It is anticipated that the fund will unlock the hustlers' dreams by cushioning them from predatory lenders.

It is designed to ensure that Kenyans access cheap and affordable credit— to spur growth.
