Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged the Director of Criminal Investigations and Director of Public Prosecution to act on doping cases.

Speaking during the plenary session in Senate, Cherargei said the two bodies should take up on those who are assisting Kenyan athletes to participate in doping.

"The DCI and DPP should prosecute those involved in doping assistance," he said.

Cherargei also said the Sh619 million that will be allocated annually to fight the rising cases of doping will assist in clearing the sports department.

"Our men and women in sports and many other disciplines should now play a clean game, it doesn't make sense to get doping," he said.

On Wednesday, the Senator said the menace should be dealt with once and for all to revive the country’s victory in athletics.

He said many athletes stand to suffer if the country is banned over the escalating cases of doping.

“If Kenya will be banned, poverty levels will increase because 90 per cent of the youth depend on athletics and other sports for a living. This will lead to more criminal cases that will only taint the country’s name,” he said.
