A German foundation is forging collaborations between Kenyan and German politicians to enhance democracy in the country.

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung country director Annette Schwandner said the partnerships will go a long way in addressing political inequalities in the country.

"In this globalised world, we have to work together by learning from each other often through various ways and programmes that will benefit both countries," she said.

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is a political foundation, closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union party of Germany.

Schwandner lauded Kenya for showing democracy in the concluded election.

She made the remarks while paying a courtesy call to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Wetang’ula while welcoming Schwandner to Parliament said Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung could engage political parties and the civil society as well in its efforts to strengthen democracy in Kenya.

"We would like to urge your organisation to help our political parties strengthen their internal democracies, hold regular elections, have youths incorporated in their management and also have gender parity,” he said.

The Speaker lauded the German foundation for having played a key role in training various organisations that were involved in the 2010 Constitution referendum monitoring process.

He further indicated that during his term in the office he looks forward to working with the German foundation to steer the National Assembly to greater heights.

"I want to ensure that I restore public confidence in regards to the operations of the National Assembly, which plays a key role in governance," Wetang’ula said.
