The letter being circulated on social media claiming to have originated from Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata informing Deputy President William Ruto that he wants to ditch UDA for Azimio La Umoja Movement is fake.

The fake letter started with a note introducing the author as "Kang’ata wa barua".

He proceeded to highlight issues that appeared to suggest that the Mt Kenya region is gravitating towards the Azimio side led by ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“First, let me thank you for the welcome you extended to me when I joined UDA. My conscience remains clear on my decision to listen to the crowd and act accordingly. However, that was over a year ago. Many things have changed. The ground has started a slow but sure shift. The Raila Odinga we believed was like pork in Mecca has started to find some footing in the Mountain,” the fake letter claimed.

It continued that:

“On my part, I joined UDA, not for personal gain but because I believed this is what the ground wanted me to do. Having made that decision, my plan was to stick to it. However, the lack of transparency and outright disrespect and public humiliation have been too much. Please act on these sentiments or risk losing the region. ”

The fact-checker has verified that the letter is fake, and did not originate from the senator.

While dismissing the letter, Kang'ata said: "Dr William is on course to get 90% of Mt Kenya votes."

He added that the letter was mere propaganda from political opponents who are working day and night to ensure that his close friendship with the DP is frustrated.

Besides, Kang'ata is among serious candidates in the UDA party who are seeking to vie the governorship seat.

He has also been active in Kenya Kwanza Alliance campaign rallies across the country.
