Information from the Global Fund on the missing medical supplies from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) warehouse including condoms formed part of social media discussion for hours on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the Global Fund, as quoted by Business Daily, 908,000 mosquito nets, 1.1 million condoms, and tuberculosis drugs worth Sh10 million had disappeared from the Kemsa warehouse.

From the story, some of the social media users in Kenyan shared images claiming that some of the missing condoms were being repackaged for resale.

“Meanwhile,  A company in Kariobnangi is repackaging condoms that should not be for sale to sell,” one of the social media users posted.

Another user using a spurious account of the Kenya police claimed that the condoms were seized in Kawangware, Nairobi.

"Used condoms are washed, repackaged, and sold as Durex. A renown con behind the operation."

However, the fact-checker has verified that the information is misleading and fake.

According to the Yandex Reverse Image search, the images were first published on September 24, 2020, by Afromambo on its website.

From the story published, the incident happened in Vietnam, where the police seized 324,000 used condoms which were being recycled to be sold again to be the public.

The information provided by the police indicated that unlabeled rubber contraceptives were confiscated during a raid at a warehouse located at DX12, Hoa Nhut Quarter, Tan Vinh Hiep Ward, Binh Duong Province, located in southern Vietnam.

Therefore, Kenyans should not be misled by the information that the condoms were being repackaged for sale in Kenya.

Also, the sleuths in Kenyan would have updated Kenyans about the operation if it was indeed in Kariobangi, Nairobi as per the propaganda.
