Just who is the big boss behind the newest party in town with its base of operation on the Coast? This is the question on the lips of many observers after known aides of a Cabinet secretary were spotted during a recruitment drive initiated by the party in Mombasa recently. The confusion of ownership followed the sighting of a vehicle branded with Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance’s colours at the party headquarters during the recruitment drive. Did a state agency lose millions during its revamp? Well, the agency could have lost big after procuring cheap car park vending machines that keep breaking down. An insider whispered that a German supplier, whose machinery has been installed in most high-end malls and airports, was shoved aside in preference to an Italian supplier. Some of the employees earlier arrested by the DCI over the flawed procurement are lamenting selective justice after it emerged that the supplier may no longer be on police radar. Citing foul play, the employees are threatening to spill the beans.

A political bigwig with stakes in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta is working on a radical shake-up of his party, sending the current top management in a panic mode. Corridors is apprised that the big man wants to get rid of most of the current officials to erase the perceptions that the party’s leadership is skewed to favour his ethnic group. Stung by the negativity, the party boss is said to be keen on appointing more people from outside his community and most preferably the youth. Our source says the reshuffle will take effect this month.

Talking of 2022, a budding politician in the succession race may have shot himself in the foot by accepting an assignment from an unwelcome quarter, to be more exact, an assignment by a rival party. Corridors is apprised that the move was the reason persons that were keen on the politician’s steady rise in the succession matrix have pulled the plug on their support. A fly on the wall whispered to us that there are even more machinations to deny the politician a home in the country’s major political parties and the same extended to new outfits he has been approaching for shelter.
