Gender and Affirmative Action CS Aisha Jumwa has issued a directive for the arrest of a police officer accused of defiling a minor.
Jumwa wants the Kilifi security team to arrest and prosecute the officer who allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl from Marereni village in Magarini constituency, Kilifi.
The CS said the police officer from Marereni police station defiled the girl in a nearby lodging, when the girl was on her way home after work on November 4 at around 9pm.
“Imagine someone has been raped and police officers could not take action. It is alarming that a deputy county commander can stand here and say that the suspect escaped,” she said.
Jumwa was speaking at Water ground in Kilifi town during the national launch of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
The CS said such a police officer is promoting sexual and gender-based violence.
This comes after Kilifi deputy police commander Wily Simba said the police officer has since gone missing after the incident.
Jumwa said if the suspect is not caught then the deputy county commander and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki will be answerable.
“I cannot withstand unpleasing behaviour in my county, whereas I am the CS for Gender and Affirmative action,” she said.
The CS said gender-based violence costs the country Sh46 billion annually, with Kilifi, Samburu and Bungoma counties leading respectively.
