Student dies after quarry collapsed on him in Homa Bay

A student at Nyakwadha Secondary School in Homa Bay died while digging sand at a quarry with his friends.

The group had gone to the quarry in Namba when it collapsed on Sunday afternoon. Despite being pulled out alive, he succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

The incident happened in Wapondi village in the Kotieno sub-location.

The body had serious injuries on the back and front side of the head with blood oozing from the mouth and nose.

It was moved to Homabay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

A jembe, used in harvesting sand, was recovered at the scene and taken by the police for further investigation.

In other news, a 22-year-old man attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of a house in the Kasarani area of Nairobi.

He was rushed to the hospital and admitted in serious condition.

And in Oyugis, a man reported missing was found drowned.

Police stated that Richard Otieno Kobe, 42, was reported missing on April 17 in the village.

His body was discovered on Monday, and an investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of death.
