Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission chairperson Bishop David Oginde has disclosed that he planned to meet with departed Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla, next week.

In a statement condoling with family and friends, Oginde said that it is sad that death only takes away precious people.

He went on to describe Ogolla as a selfless individual who served the country with great distinction.

Bishop Oginde noted that Ogolla's death has only affirmed to him how untimely death is.

"Sad how death knocks at the wrong door and takes precious people. General Ogolla was a selfless gentleman who served his nation with great distinction and professionalism," Oginde said.

"That I was to meet him next week has underscored to me the untimeliness of death. Special grace to the family."

His remarks come a day after it was confirmed that General Ogolla and nine other senior officers of the Kenya Defence Forces had died in a military chopper crash.

The nine were Brig Swaleh Saidi, Col Duncan Keitany, Lt Col David Sawe,  Major George Benson Magondu (who was also the pilot), Capt Sorah Mohamed, Capt Hillary Litali,  Senior Sergeant John Kinywa Mureithi, Sergent Cliffonce Omondi and Sergent Rose Nyawira.

The accident occurred at 2.20 pm, on Thursday.

"I'm deeply saddened to announce the passing on of General Francis Omondi Ogolla, the Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces," President William Ruto said during his address to the nation at State House, Nairobi.

The President said two military officers survived the accident and are receiving treatment in Nairobi.

Ruto announced a three-day national mourning period starting Friday, April 19, in honour of the fallen General.

He said during the period, the Kenyan flag and that of the Kenya Defence Forces, the East African Community and flags of all formations of the military shall fly at half mast in Kenya and Kenyan missions abroad.

The Kenya Airforce has also constituted and dispatched a team to investigate and establish the cause of the air crash that killed CDF Ogolla and nine others.

"The Kenya Air Force has constituted and dispatched an air investigations team, to establish the cause of the air crash," Ruto said.
