Police in Athi River, Machakos County, are investigating an incident where a girl who was defiled died aboard a police vehicle on Sunday evening.

The 14-year-old girl, according to police, died after cops picked her up together with her father, 30, who had allegedly defiled her at their Ndovoini village in Muthwani, Athi River subcounty.

The matter was reported to Kyumbi police station as suspected murder/incest incident report.

"It has been reported by the station officer tonight that they had picked a suspect, from Ndovoini village, Muthwani sublocation, Lukenya location who had been arrested by members of the public on allegations that he had defiled his daughter," a police report seen by the Star read in part.

Police stated that the duty officer picked up the suspect together with the victim, a Grade 5 pupil at a local public school, accompanied by her mother before the minor passed on.

"The victim is alleged to have passed on while on the way aboard the station vehicle which is stuck due to bad weather and heavy rains in the area," the report read.

Police said the body was taken to a mortuary pending an autopsy while the suspect was held at Kyumbi police station as investigations into both incidents commenced.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives attached to Kyumbi police station have taken over the investigations.
