The Nairobi Hospital has been nominated for a top global award for its outstanding leadership in the region's healthcare sector.

The nomination acknowledged the hospital's innovative and initiative-driven steps taken by its management to offer patients care using advanced technology.

In a statement on Thursday, Nairobi Hospital CEO James Nyamongo said the nomination is a testament to the trust bestowed on the institution as a leading health facility in East and Central Africa.

"As we mark 70 years of existence this year, this is indeed big news not just for us, but also for our partners and clients who have walked with us in our seven-decade journey," Nyamongo said.

"I am deeply grateful to our Board of Management led by Dr Chris Bichage, our medical team and the entire hospital fraternity for giving their best in transforming the Nairobi Hospital."

The award, the Best Quality Leadership Award is an initiative of the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR).

The award targets selected companies, institutions, public administrations and organizations representing different sectors from Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and Australia.

ESQR is a European organisation headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, dedicated to quality improvement techniques recognition and research.

"ESQR contributes positively to quality culture through its annual conventions and award-giving ceremonies. It recognizes organizational excellence, facilitates networking, and disseminates innovation and visionary thinking," ESQR's executive director Dr. A. Arista said.

Dr Arista announced that the award ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium.

The award event will see business leaders, academic experts and quality professionals participate.

According to the statement, the Nairobi Hospital has invested nearly Sh2 billion worth of projects in an expansion strategy geared towards the delivery of quality service in the last three years.

The Hospital hospital estimates over 10,000 Kenyans travel abroad especially to India and South Africa seeking treatment for various ailments causing considerable foreign exchange drain on the affected families and ultimately the country.

Last year, the Nairobi Hospital won a global award for its free treatment access program for cancer patients.

The award, received last October during the International Hospital Federation Awards ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal, was in honour of the Glivec International Patient Assistance Program for cancer patients which has benefited over 2,000 patients since 2004.
