Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba showed his funny side in a brief encounter with comedian Professor Hamo during the World Rally Championship shakedown in Naivasha on Wednesday.

A video shared on social media shows the CS engaging in banter with Hamo and Kenya Sevens player Patrick Odongo.

The three, donned in rally apparel, are seen under the scorching sun in Naivasha laughing and making jokes about the Safari Rally experience.

The trio were in Naivasha for the shakedown in preparation for the WRC Safari Rally scheduled over the Easter weekend.

The shakedown, according to WRC, lays the groundwork for the rally which will run from March 28-31.

The race, one of the hardest rally series worldwide, is slated to take place in Naivasha.

It is expected to attract both local and international rally enthusiasts.

President William Ruto will officially open the event on Thursday at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Kenya is hosting the race for the 71st time.

From KICC, drivers will travel to Naivasha in Rift Valley, passing through several farms, ranches and conservancies near Lake Naivasha and Lake Elementaita.

WRC Safari Rally Kenya CEO Charles Gacheru noted the cooperative efforts of stakeholders in guaranteeing a smooth and successful rally while expressing confidence in the event's preparations.

"The preparations for the Safari Rally are proceeding smoothly and we are currently at the tail-end, with meticulous attention to detail," he said.

"Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly to ensure that all aspects of the event have been addressed. From setting up the Service Park to coordinating logistics and ensuring safety measures are in place, every aspect of the rally’s organization is being carefully managed to meet the highest standards expected of such an event," Gacheru added.

The Service Park is located at the Kenya Wildlife Research Training Institute and serves as the nerve centre of the rally.

Gacheru said teams will use the venue to fine-tune their vehicles and conduct essential maintenance with the help of their dedicated mechanics.
