The attackers also burned a house and a motorcycle before stealing foodstuffs.

Witnesses said the victims were shot and killed after a battle with the militants.

They appealed for action from the government to tame the attacks.

More police officers were deployed to the area to pursue the attackers who are believed to be hiding in the nearby expansive Boni Forest.

Somalia has not had stable government to help in addressing such attacks.
