Residents of Naivasha woke to a rude shock of two foetuses covered in gunny bags dumped in two different estates.

One of the foetuses was found near DEB Primary School while the other was discovered next to the Naivasha Subcounty Hospital fence.

Police collected the two bodies.

According to John Kinuthia from Naivasha Gender Based Networking Cluster, the foetuses appeared to be around eight months old.

He decried the rising cases of abortion in informal settlements in the Naivasha, saying that they recorded at least five such cases every month.

“Sadly, two unborn babies have lost their lives through abortion, which incidentally is on the rise in nearly all the informal settlements in Naivasha,” Kinuthia said.

The activist said that the two foetuses were collected by police and taken to Naivasha Sub-county Hospital mortuary as part of their investigations.

Meanwhile, there was a scare at Kayole police post in Naivasha after fire broke out in one of the houses and spread to the nearby cells before it was contained.

During the early morning incident, property worth thousands of shillings was destroyed before members of the public joined the security officers to put off the fire.

The officers rushed in to collect firearms that were stored in the armoury as residents milled around the busy post to witness the incident.

A resident, James Mwai, said that they were woken by screams from families living in the police compound as the fire spread out from one of the houses.

“We suspect that the fire was caused by an electric fault but we managed to put it off before it could spread to the offices and cells,” he said.

Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui confirmed the incident, saying that no one was injured although property from one of the houses neighbouring the police post was damaged.

“We managed to put off the fire in time and all the officers and firearms in the armoury have been accounted for,” he said.
