Gachagua visits Kapsabet High School after tragic accident

He assured the school fraternity of the government's support during this difficult time.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday passed his heartfelt condolences to Kapsabet High School following a devastating road accident that resulted in the loss of a student and a teacher's life.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, plunging the school into mourning.

"Our prayers and deepest sympathies are with the students, teachers, parents of Kapsabet High School for the tragic road accident on Saturday, that claimed the lives of a student and a teacher," the DP said 

Gachagua, on behalf of President William Ruto visited the school early in the morning and addressed the students.

"This morning, on behalf of President William Ruto, I, and my family, I commiserated with the students and members of the School fraternity," he said.

The DP assured the school fraternity of the government's commitment to cope with the aftermath of the accident.

He also wished quick recovery to the injured students who are receiving treatment in various hospitals in Baringo and Uasin Gishu.

Gachagua was accompanied by Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei among others.

According to a police report on Saturday, the bus driver lost control while negotiating a sharp corner and landed at the bottom of a steep slope.

The rescued students have been rushed to different hospitals.

A student and a teacher succumbed to their injuries.

Area Police Commissioner Stephen Kutwa who confirmed the incident said the bus had 63 on board; 61 students, one teacher, and a driver on board at the time of the accident.

He said two people had died and several others injured.

"One teacher and one student were fatally injured, five students were seriously injured while 19 others were slightly injured," a police report reads in part.

The injured students were rushed to Kabarnet and Marigat Mission hospitals, and Baringo County Referral Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been moved to Kabarnet level 4 hospital mortuary.
