Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has called for the immediate closure of all second-generation alcohol manufacturers and distillers' premises in Makueni.

While opening the subcounty offices at Kambu Market, Makueni County, on Monday, the CS noted that the law will be followed to the letter in ridding Kenya of alcoholism and drug abuse menace.

He said alcohol and drug abuse among youths had escalated crimes in the country hence the need to tame the vices.

Kindiki stated that any vehicle found ferrying illicit drugs or housing them would be forfeited and later sold and the money used to rehabilitate addicts.

"Just the other day we lost 28 innocent citizens in Kirinyaga. We won't withstand such anymore, "added Kindiki.

The CS said it will not be business as usual in Emali Town, Makueni County, which is said to be notorious for drug peddling, especially bhang.

Kindiki at the same time issued a warning over the ongoing vandalism of the Standard Gauge Railway.

"Leave the railway alone," quoted Kindiki.

He reiterated that the reinforcement of protected areas act shall be followed to the letter to ensure that there is no vandalism of any government projects.

He pleaded with residents to give immediate reports on persons destroying any government project be it the Standard Gauge Railway, the National Highways and water projects such as the mega Thwake Dam among others.

"Makueni covers 248 Kilometres of the SGR which is half of the whole rail and it's a major economic zone in the country that ferries so many people and expensive luggage that needs strict conservation," Kindiki said.

He likened the vandals to terrorists who are great enemies of the nation and ordered that whoever will be found committing the offence be dealt with ruthlessly.

Kindiki stated that the laws that govern the State House and SGR are the same.

"Ukipatikana kwa SGR utasafirishwa kwa shetani (when found vandalising SGR you will be transported to hell),"

The new Kambu sub-county will be headed by the new DCC Teresiah Mburu. Makueni now has ten sub-counties.

In Makueni, the Government has created 4 divisions, 28 Locations and 48 sub-locations.

Among all the Counties that got new divisions, Makueni tops the list, according to Kindiki.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr was grateful to the National Government for keeping the County in the limelight on development matters and pledged his full support towards all Agendas.

Kibwezi MP Jessica Mbalu said that they have been waiting for Kambu Sub-county since 2017 when she and other leaders from the region tabled a petition in the Parliament.

Area MCA Brian Nzoka lauded the launch of the new sub-county saying it has cut the cost used for travelling in search services.
