Embakasi East Babu Owino has appealed to Kenyans to contribute money to help victims of the Embakasi gas explosion.

The Embakasi gas plant that exploded left seven people dead and over 280 others nursing critical injuries.

In a statement on Saturday, Babu Owino urged Kenyans to come out and help each other.

He called on leaders to join Kenyans in contributing.

"Fellow Kenyans you can channel your generous contributions to the PayBill number 247247 to help the Embakasi Fire Victims. An orphaned calf scratches its own back.  Proverbs 19:17, whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed," he said.

The legislator has also named some of the leaders who have so far contributed to helping Embakasi fire victims.

Babu Owino thanked the governors and Members of Parliament who have contributed.

They include Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, Senator Catherine Muma, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi among others.

He called on other leaders to join hands in helping the residents of his constituency.

On Thursday, the Private sector players were urged to extend emergency and medical support to the victims.

The Nairobi Hospital CEO James Nyamongo said the situation is dire and needed private sector players to chip in.

Nairobi Hospital conducted a three-day free medical care and support to the victims.

The team of specialists set up a makeshift hospital at the Embakasi Health Centre.

Consultations, dressing, specialised wound care and related medication were some of the services provided.

Some cases were however referred for further checkups such as x-rays.

“When an emergency strikes, it is everyone’s business to see to it that our people are assisted. The collaboration between public and private sector players is best seen during a crisis,” Nyamongo said.
