Detectives in collaboration with other state agencies have launched investigations into the Embakasi explosion that has since left three people dead and scores of others injured.

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura told the press on Friday when he made a tour of the scene that they are seeking to unravel its cause.

"Investigations are underway to establish the real cause of the explosion," Mwaura said.

Mwaura maintained that the owners of the facility must take full responsibility including compensating the victims.

"There is no denial that if at all EPRA denied them the licence, then the owners may have allegedly corrupted their way...so, they also need to come on board," he stated.

Mwaura further warned that those who may have "slept on the job" will be held responsible.

No arrest had been made so far.

The death toll on Friday morning rose to three.

Several vehicles were burnt in the incident even as government on Friday revealed further details from the fire incident.

The Government Spokesman said a lorry carrying gas cylinders exploded.

"Yesterday at around 11:30 pm, there was a huge explosion at Mradi area, in Embakasi, Nairobi County. One Lorry loaded with gas exploded, igniting a huge ball of fire that spread widely," he said

Mwaura further revealed that a flying gas cylinder hit the Oriental Godown nearby, burning it down.  The godown deals in garments and textiles.
