One arrested, suspected stolen car parts recovered in Eldoret

Detectives acting on intelligence reports have arrested one person and recovered motor vehicle parts in Eldoret suspected to have been stolen.

The DCI said in a statement on Tuesday said a suspect in whose house the items were recovered was arrested at Race Course estate within Eldoret town during the operation Monday evening.

“Upon search in his residence, several items were recovered including an assortment of motor vehicle registration number plates, seven ignition keys, and chassis plates among others,” the DCI said.

The suspect and all exhibits were taken to DCI Kondele offices pending further police action.

The operation was part of the ongoing crackdown on a car theft syndicate in major urban towns of the country.  

In the latest case, a multi-agency team comprising of officers from DCI Kondele and DCI Turbo were following leads regarding the disappearance of a white Isuzu D-Max which was reported stolen from DCI Kondele.

Detectives have so far recovered at least 10 vehicles over the past week and arrested at least six suspects.

Five vehicles suspected to have been stolen from Lang’ata and Jogoo road among other parts of Nairobi were recovered in Athi River on Wednesday.

On Friday, detectives arrested six suspects and recovered three suspected stolen cars in another intelligence-led operation that led to arrests in Makongeni Estate, Thika, Narumoru in Nyeri, Githurai, Flyover area and Kariobangi in Nairobi.

On Saturday, detectives recovered two more stolen vehicles including a numberless silver Toyota Probox after interrogating the six suspects.

The vehicles were recovered in Nakuru by DCI officers deployed to crack down on the syndicate.

“The suspect managed to run away leaving the vehicle, but efforts are on high gear to have him arrested,” DCI said in a statement.
