CNN journalist Larry Madowo has termed as 'witchcraft' a gesture by a stranger who took a poor-quality photo of him and his sister in Berlin.

Larry said he was in the German capital to celebrate his sister Liz Madowo's birthday.

"Braving Berlin’s cold and snow on Liz Madowo’s birthday," he captioned a photo of him and Liz strolling on a street in his initial post on X.

In a subsequent post-Thursday afternoon, he posted a photo of them standing in front of the Brandenburger Tor, one of Germany's most famous and iconic monuments.

The image, however, was seemingly taken in low light and showed Larry and his sister a shade darker than their actual skin pigmentation.

"It’s my sister's birthday. Can you please take a picture of us?" Larry captioned the photo referencing his request to a stranger who took it.

In the photo, their faces appeared black. "Isn’t this witchcraft?," Larry posed.

"But we move irregardless," he added in jest.

A section of users on X made light of the issue with some posting colour-enhanced copies of the photo depicting the duo in a lighter shade.

"Now we see you," @Its_Smith22 captioned one of the images.

"Buana hamuonekani (You are invisible)," was @hustler_kabwere's reaction while @joe_kunta posted a meme with titles that read, "Darkness, everybody darkness. Darkness is spreading."

"Do we blame the cameraman, the camera or those being captured?" @Basilio_001 posed.

Larry is widely travelled partly because of the nature of his job at CNN.

In 2023 alone, the renowned journalist revealed that he had visited nearly 30 countries.

"After 45 foreign trips in 2023 alone - 27 countries - I think I might know what a visa is and isn’t," he posted on X on January 9.

The trips, however, fell below his 2023 target of visiting 30 countries.

"Will hit 30 countries this year alone. Anything more would be overkill, right? he said on September 17, 2023.
