National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang'ula has called upon Kenyans to take advantage of the festive season and pray for peace in the nation, the region and continent as a whole.

Speaking on Tuesday when he attended a service at St Stephen's Sikusi Catholic Church in Bungoma, he also emphasised on the need to place the world before God and plead for peace.

"We hope for a resolution of the longstanding conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis, a strife that has regrettably claimed numerous lives," he said.

At the same time, he urged motorists to be cautious to minimise tragic accidents.

"As we approach the dawn of the new year, let sobriety reign so that people can live in peace, unity, and harmony among our people," the Speaker said.

Noting that the country has been receiving rains, Wetang'ula asked farmers all over to rededicate their efforts and vigour towards cultivating produce for their families and for the nation.

Regarding Bungoma County, the Speaker acknowledged of the development plans put in place cutting across schools, health facilities and roads.

He also noted that the national government intends to elevate the Lwakhakha-Kanduyi road to a high-density road in 2024.

This, he said, is strategically designed to alleviate trailer traffic at the Western border.

"This initiative will be complemented by the phased construction of a dual carriageway from Malaba to Nairobi, promising enhanced connectivity and economic progress," he added.

The Speaker also expressed worry over the alarming surge in teenage pregnancies within Bungoma, Kilifi, and Busia, calling on parents to be proactively involved in educating, guiding, and safeguarding the girl child.

"Let parents be vigilant in preventing the surge of teenage pregnancies in our county," he concluded.
