Opposition chief Raila Odinga has dragged President William Ruto into the “discrepancies” witnessed in the 2023 KCPE examinations results.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, the ODM  leader claimed that the Head of State knows exactly what transpired with the exams.

“The back stops with William Ruto. He knows what transpired in last year’s and this year’s national examinations, “ Raila said.

The former Prime Minister claimed that the Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza administration cancelled the contract awarded to a United Kingdom-based firm tasked to print the KCPE papers.

Following the cancellation of the tender, Raila claims the government awarded the tender to a Mombasa Road-based firm.

Going further, Raila claimed that the Mombasa-Road-based firm was forced to outsource from a company based in India for the exam papers to be printed in a hurry to meet the deadlines.

"We are also aware that the UK firm declined to provide codes to the many layers of security that had been encrypted to safeguard the integrity of national exams. We believe this process is responsible for the disaster witnessed in the KCPE results," he revealed.

The Opposition leader alleged that the contract for relaying results to the public was awarded to another company on short notice, hence jeopardising the entire process.

Raila said that the local company could not provide the services and hence caused the delay and errors witnessed after the release of the exams.

Last month, parents and guardians of Kitengela International School and Kisii's Set Greenhill Academy Mixed and Boarding Junior School 2023 KCPE candidates sued Knec over the results.

The two have moved to the High Court seeking orders to stop Knec and the Ministry of Education from beginning the Form One selection exercise until the petitions are heard and determined.

The parents disputed the results released by Education CS Ezekiel  Machogu claiming that there were errors in the grading system.

They said if the process goes on as planned the pupils will be denied justice and miss the secondary school of their choice if the review is done in their favour.

Pius Kiio of Kitengela International who is representing his child stated that the school had in the last three years produced good results and it was difficult to now comprehend how this year's results had variances.

Through Lawyer Danstan Omari, Kiio said the 2023 results "did not fall within a reasonable range."
