Kenya will host the CECAFA U18 Championship and the Pan-African U15 Zonal Championship.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba said in a statement on Friday the tournaments will be held in Kisumu-Kakamega from November 22 and Nairobi in December respectively.

"We consider this junior level as the perfect foundation for us to rebuild our sports. I am delighted to announce that the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports is supporting graduates of Kenya's first-ever National Holiday Talent Camp we hosted last August to progress to these junior national teams," he said.

The CS said footballing youngsters Aldrine Kibet, Alvin Kasavuli, Amos Wanjala and Ismael Alal Odhiambo will be flown into the country from Nastic Soccer Academy in Spain and Luis Ingavi from Monteverde Academy in Orlando, Florida who have already secured their official release to participate in the championships.

"Under the Talanta Hela flagship anchored by the Kenya Academy of Sports, we are continuously identifying and keeping granular track of Kenya's best young talents," he said.

"We believe this is the surest route to build a formidable Harambee Stars for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and beyond, as well as national teams in other disciplines, including rugby, tennis, volleyball, cricket and more."

Namwamba's remarks come just a day after Kenya started its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign on a low note by losing 2-1 to Gabon in Franceville on Thursday.

Harambee Stars had taken the lead five minutes before the breakthrough of Amos Nondi before Gabon drew level early in the second half.

After several missed chances in the high-octane remaining bit of the game, the hosts collected all three points through a Guelor Kanga thunderous shot in the 88-minute.

Kenya is drawn in Group F for the qualifiers alongside Gabon, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Seychelles and Gambia.

Burundi led the group with three points same as Gabon but with a superior goal difference.

Kenya and Gambia lie bottom of the pool with no point with Gambia having lost its opening match to Burundi 2-3  at the Dares Salam Stadium on Thursday.
