Kenya's leading political newspaper, the Star, is inviting nominations for Kenyans or leaders who have done exemplary well within the year to influence key events and lives.

The eventual winner of the prestigious “Star Person of the Year” will be unveiled in December.

The Star Newspaper Editor Jilo Kadida said the nomination is an opportunity to celebrate people whose acts touched humanity in one way or another.

"Every year-end as we take stock of what happened in the country in terms of politics, governance, and how courts dispensed justice, we try to look for that unique individual who made an extra effort to make life bearable or contributed in a meaningful way to make Kenya a better place," she said.

Jilo said the award is to recognize the effort of people who defied the odds to make life better for Kenyans even as they cruised tough times.

"The special people who go the extra mile to make society better in a selfless way are the ones we are looking for in order to celebrate them as heroes," she said.

"That's why the Star is giving members of the public a chance to nominate a hero or a heroine who deserves to be given their flowers."

Internal Awards Committee chair Felix Olick, who is also the Star Newspaper political editor, asked Kenyans to use the opportunity to second persons who they deem qualified for nomination

“Life has been rough for many Kenyans with the cost of living skyrocketing. But there must be that one person who has stood out for you," Olick said.

"A person who made your life bearable, who inspires you, and whose values, vision or rallying call made a difference. Please nominate such exceptional individuals for this award.”
