Two brothers aged 9  and 5 years old drowned on Tuesday evening in a sand dam near Thange River, Wandei village in Kibwezi, Makueni.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Chief Ulilinzi sub-location Elizabeth Kanini said that the two had taken a donkey to drink water in the sand dam when they accidentally slipped into the deep waters.

"The young boy in class two was trying to chase after the donkey when he entered the dam and later the class five brother drowned trying to save him," stated Kanini.

According to Kanini, the third boy who was together with them ran to inform the parents about the tragic accident.

Their bodies were taken to Makindu Hospital Mortuary by police awaiting postmortem.

The chief has urged all parents to avoid sending young ones to the river alone, especially during the rainy season to curb such accidents.
