Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan now says that most elected leaders within the Jubilee party have moved on and have their own leadership.

Speaking on Wednesday in an interview with KTN, Yusuf said this is even as the former ruling party remains divided.

The MP insisted that the majority of elected leaders in the party have picked from among them people who serve as their new party leaders but the other faction has been in and out of court over the issue.

He said the contesting faction (pro-retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and represented by Jeremiah Kioni)  has party resources at their disposal which is why they will continue contesting the other side.

"Jubilee is split, a majority of us who are sitting in parliament have moved on. We have formed our own leadership based on our own needs and then there is the other old Jubilee which was holding the headquarters and contesting that.

"This is a matter in court and when one day one section of Jubilee wins a court decision the other side appeals. This is what has been going on but in reality, the overwhelming majority of Jubilee party who are in the National Assembly and Senate have selected Sabina Chege and Kanini Kega as their leaders," Yusuf said.

The Kamukunji MP was commenting on developments within the party. He was elected on a Jubilee ticket.

The Jubilee party has two competing sides; one which is pro-President William Ruto, led by Sabina Chege and Kanini Kega as acting party leader and secretary general.

The other side is pro-retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and is represented by Jeremiah Kioni as its SG. The faction recognises Uhuru as the party leader.

The two sides have been holding parallel official meetings and press conferences insisting that they are in charge of the party affairs.

The Jubilee sides are currently embroiled in an unending court battle.
