UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala has praised the leadership of Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo

Malala described Guyo’s ascension to power as a true definition of ‘bottom up’.

“This is the fourth time I’m here in Isiolo and it's because of the good relation our party, UDA has with Governor Guyo,” he said.

Malala was speaking on Saturday in Isiolo during a thanksgiving event of Petroleum PS Mohammed Laban which was also graced by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He said that Guyo’s rise to power should be a testimony to upcoming leaders.

“When I was an MCA, Guyo was also an MCA and I rose to become a Senator and he now is a governor. This story should motivate people on how bottom-up can work,” Malala added.

Guyo under the Jubilee Party ticket was declared the winner of the Isiolo governor race where he garnered 28,946 votes to beat former governor Godana Doyo who ran as an Independent. Doyo garnered 26,270.

On March 26, 2022 Guyo who was the outgoing Nairobi County Assembly Majority leader accepted the mantle after incumbent Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti endorsed him to take over from his leadership.

At the time, Guyo had declared his interest in vying for the Embakasi Central parliamentary seat and had even embarked on campaigns.

Little did he know that the decision to go to Isiolo would take his political career to another level.

Others who have tried have opted to use the long way of vying for National Assembly and Senate seats, before going for gubernatorial positions.

Governor Kuti dropped his re-election bid citing health reasons.

Before devolution, Guyo served as a councillor and was re-elected in the 2013 elections on a TNA ticket as Matopeni MCA.

He was then appointed the minority leader in the Nairobi County Assembly.

In 2017, he was re-elected on a Jubilee party ticket and he was elected unopposed as the majority leader.

Guyo is now the governor-elect of Isiolo and leads a county made up of two subcounties; Isiolo North and Isiolo South.

It has 10 wards; Wabera, Bulla Pesa, Burat, Ngaremara, Oldinyiro, Chari, Cherab, Kinna, Sericho and Garbatulla.

Governor Guyo recently defected to the United Democratic Alliance Party.
