Former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama has expressed his opinion on the recent Supreme Court ruling on the LGBTQ community.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court threw out an application by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma that sought to challenge a court ruling on the registration of an LGBTQ+ lobby.

Reacting to the ruling, Muthama said the ruling undermines the country's deeply rooted cultural and religious values.

"It is my belief that advocating for LGBTQ+ acceptance is a foreign agenda, aimed at eroding African moral standards," he said in a statement.

The former Senator also highlighted that the ruling has a potential impact on our children, especially through the amplification of LGBTQ+ content on social media platforms.

He went ahead and emphasized that President William Ruto's stand against the issue was very clear.

"President Ruto was very clear that homosexuality is unacceptable in Kenya and I want to urge fellow patriots to unite in safeguarding our nation against such practices," Muthama added.

Early this year in March, Ruto said he would not allow the country to head in that direction as Kenya had values that need to be respected.

“We respect the Court but… I will not allow it in Kenya. We have our culture and traditions, we respect our constitution and all our religions,” he said.

Ruto noted that the government did not support calls to legalise the Lesbian Gay Transgender and Queers (LGBTQ) community in Kenya.

"We can’t travel the road of women marrying women or men marrying men. That will not happen under my watch,” he added.
