Tigania West MP John Mutunga has said that Opposition leader Raila Odinga lost the only chance he had to become President in August 2022.

According to the MP, Raila had all the support he needed to become the fifth president but the people refused to elect him.

Mutunga who was responding to calls by the Opposition to have last year's polls audited said not even the audit will change things for the former Prime Minister.

"The leader of the Opposition Raila Odinga lost the greatest chance of his life. He lost the only chance he had to become the President, he has no chance any more. Whether we audit or we don't audit that is a chance he lost," he said on K24 TV.

"He had the entire security systems with him, he had the entire infrastructure of the nation, he had the backing of the then sitting president with him, he had the deep state and the Kenyans to vote. He had everything."

One of the issues fronted for discussion in the National Dialogue Committee by the Azimio side is the audit of the August 2022 polls.

According to a statement issued by the committee, the panel had listed five broader issues for discussion.

The issue of electoral justice had been listed in the second position.

Under the electoral justice agenda, items include the reconstitution of IEBC, audit of the 2022 presidential election and boundaries delimitation.

However, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua wants the audit of the last election dropped from the agenda in the ongoing talks between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.
