Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told off former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni over his involvement in anti-government protests.

Speaking in Ndaragwa on Thursday, the DP blasted Kioni, saying he was ungrateful to the residents who had elected him earlier in office

"Kijana wetu ambaye anaitwa Kioni aliharibiwa na ule jamaa wa maandamano. Kioni tafadhali, wacha kutuaibisha. You have embarrassed the people of Ndaragwa," Gachagua said.

In the August 2022 elections, Kioni with 7,227 votes lost Ndaragwa constituency parliamentary seat to UDA's George Gachagua who got  30,180.

The DP highlighted that instead of the former MP appreciating the opportunity he was given to serve Ndaragwa constituents, he decided to go to the streets.

"These people made you MP for a long time but you decided to carry sufuria on your head. We really feel embarrassed," Gachagua added.

Early this year,  Kioni explained why he led a section of Kenyans in a viral 'sufuria' protest.

Kioni said that he was upset by the suffering of the people in Nyandarua who were starving.

He noted that the meaning of their mini-demo was both literal and symbolic, and was a message to President William Ruto's administration.

"Kenyans are hungry, not just for food but for the promises the government made to be delivered. This is not only in Nyandarua but the entire country," Kioni added.

He argued that the citizens were frustrated by the current situation of the high cost of living in the country, claiming that it was because an unstable government was in charge.
