Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has said that Azimio Leader Raila Odinga will forever carry the burden of supporting former President Uhuru Kenyatta in his last term.

Reacting to remarks by US Ambassador Meg Whitman that the August 2022 elections were the most credible in the country, Elachi said such remarks come out because they know Raila "was in government".

She said the former Prime Minister had the backing of the State and the election was his to lose.

"Baba (Raila Odinga) will forever carry the burden of supporting former President Uhuru Kenyatta when he was finishing his term. Everything was on the table. Even if we say we were rigged or not, the whole world knows we were in government," Elachi said

The legislator insisted that Azimio should now focus on the next election.

"Already the government is focused on how they are headed for 2027."

Whitman who spoke at the Devolution Conference in Eldoret on Wednesday said last year's election has been termed by many commentators and analysts as the "freest, fairest and most credible election in Kenyan history".

“I arrived in Kenya days before the general election, and what I witnessed was short of remarkable,” Whitman said.

“The election was observed by local and international election organisations and the results were upheld by the Kenyan Supreme court and power was transferred orderly and peacefully at the time,” she added.
