MPs have directed Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to immediately stop the ongoing admission of KMTC students declaring the process illegal.

The National Assembly Health Committee on Thursday noted the exercise is illegal, null and void given a July court order that ruled against KUCCPS leading the process.

The lawmakers said KUCCPS had been in breach of the law and directed that it transfer all admission monies for the 42,000 applications that had been received.

Applicants were charged Sh2000 as an application fee.

"The Committee is of the decision that students who have already applied are illegal, the process is flawed," Committee chairman Robert Pukose said.

The committee also directed KMPTC to readvertise and admit the students.

"KMTC should be able to readvertise and admit students," he added.

Early this week, Azimio la Umoja demanded that KUCCPS gives 2022 KCSE candidates another chance to apply to join universities and colleges.

Leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi said KUCCPS should open the third review of courses to give a chance to the more than 600, 000 who missed out on the opportunity.

“The cost of application that was placed at Sh1,500 per application for a young person to be placed in a college coupled with lack of information about the process is now threatening the future of over half a million young people,” he said.
