Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi now says that President William Ruto will not be able to stabilise the country's economy without engaging the Opposition.

Speaking on Monday, Osotsi said the issues between the two political sides (Kenya Kwanza and Azimio) are a serious problem that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

He noted that the Opposition controls half of the country and if the current regime does not engage the opposition, the economy will be affected.

"I don't think they will be able to stabilise the economy if they don't deal with the political situation in the country. The issue between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza is a serious problem which they need to address.

"Some people take this issue very lightly, Azimio controls half of this country in terms of support. They won the election with a margin of 200,000.

"When we have such a huge section of the country against a sitting regime it will always affect economic performance of the country. The sooner they deal with this problem the better for them," Osotsi said on Citizen TV.

His remarks come on the backdrop of assurances by President William Ruto that his administration has now stabilised the economy.

Speaking for the first time on the positive progress of the country's economic trajectory on Sunday, Ruto said it has taken a lot of effort and strategy.

The head of state, who has repeatedly insisted that his Bottom Up Economic Transformation (BETA) will change Kenya, insisted the country is in safe hands and stable going forward.

"We were in a situation where we were deep in debts and did not have a programme to get us out of the mess...I am now happy to tell you that we have stabilised the economy of the Republic of Kenya," Ruto said.

The president revealed that the good progress has been made possible by blocking the reckless borrowing by the government.
