Uhuru to the media: Please guard Kenya's democracy

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on the media to protect the Kenyan democracy.

Uhuru said that the media could play an important role in all the political happenings in the country.

"Nawaomba nyinyi wanahabari, saidieni kulinda haki ya wananchi (I ask you the media, help in safeguarding the rights and democracy of our citizens)," he said even as he thanked Journalist for showing up at his son's residence.

It has been a while since Uhuru engaged the media on issues affecting the country.

The last time he was covered by local media was during the Jubilee  Party National Delegates Convention at Ngong Racecourse on May 22, 2023.

It was at the same event that Uhuru said he thought he would be handing over power. 

However, the retired President said given the intense wrangles over the party, he has decided to soldier on.

“I wanted to exit the political scene and I was thinking in the NDC is where I would come out to announce my retirement,” he told delegates at Ngong racecourse then.

In a veiled attack on his successor, President William Ruto, Kenyatta vowed to face his tormentors head-on.

“Some people have decided that their work will be bulldozing and threatening others. Today, I tell you look for someone else, not Uhuru Kenyatta,” Uhuru said.
